Ultimately, I went with semi transparent 12mm square edged dice from koplow in cubes of 36 for green and blue. If you need to roll a lot of dice, then you'll want to go with a smaller size, but no smaller then 10mm or 12mm. Furthermore, you're more likely to knock models over with those things. There's a reason in craps that you are required to hit the back wall when you throw and the surface is velvet - the dice need enough distance and spin to reach true randomness and you're not getting it in on a small clear space on the table. I've seen people use the casino dice that are 1", but not toss them with enough force to make them spin properly. Finally, dice size should be small enough to actually roll. Some other things to think about are going with semi transparent dice so that no air bubbles are present, flat edges instead of rounded, and painted pips instead of drilled. Other visibility problems are high gloss, marbled, poor pip color, and dice to pip contrast. Call me a grump, but I prefer to see what my opponent rolled. I could go on a rant about all the different terrible GW faction dice. GW has even started making some that have symbols for each number.
